That was my first thought when I laid eyes on Joël Penkmans work.
Working with the fabulous ladies at The Blonde and The Brunette, I have been spoiled with the best sweets in town. (Even out of town, when NJ treats us to Levain Bakery  (NYC’s BEST, as well as Anna Wintour’s favorite cookies). That being said, these are most definitely the sweetest non-edible delights I’ve ever seen!

I love the realistic nature and stellar simplicity of each of Penkmans stills. She has an interesting painting technique, using egg tempera as her medium, tediously grinding her own paints and making her own gesso, the classic priming for Renaissance-style fine art.

Joël is a UK based New Zealander with a background in graphic design. Her paintings are meticulous, graphic and often nostalgic. She does commissions. What’s favorite sweet treat would you like to see on paper? www.JoelPenkman.com
