Send In The Clowns: Dior Couture Fall 2011
After everything that has happened at Dior, created by the huge void and circumstances surrounding John Galliano‘s departure, there was hope and promise that Bill Gaytten would assume the design mantle and lead the way. He toiled for years under Galliano and was always well-liked; everyone was rooting for him and the House of Dior.
For his inaugural show, Gaytten surrounded himself by a talented coterie of experts from Pat McGrath for make-up to Orlando Pita for hair. This was his moment to catch or create lighting in a bottle. It didn’t happen. Totally misguided and conceived, the collection that just hit the runaway at the haute couture in Paris, has backfired like the noise of a clown truck at the circus. Nothing of the brand essence is evident and everyone is left wondering what will happen next.
