Haider Hits Hollywood
Some are saying he is the eventual successor to Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. Even Karl has hinted he may be the crown prince. So the fashion world and The Blonde & The Brunette have been paying very close attention to designer Haider (pronounced High-Der) Ackermann. He winged his way to LA the other night from Belgium for a very exclusive and beautiful event hosted by Saks Fifth Avenue. Hosted at the private terrace room at Sunset Tower in West Hollywood, it was a beautiful night and a beautiful location with the views overlooking the city and the sparkling pool. The B & B’s Cameron Silver and Susan Casden, along with myself, made it a point to drop in at the invitation of John Cruz, the GM of Saks Beverly Hills.
The big surprise (actually there were two) was the restrained AW 2011 Collection, with beautiful jewel tones that flatter, was finally on display for all to see (and order). Up close the workmanship and juxtaposition of leathers, suedes and silks (some striped) all wrapped, draped, twisted and belted, is a new vision of modern glamour and individuality.
If you had any doubts, then you missed Janet Jackson at Cannes the week before in Haider, which is why she just dropped in to surprise him and say thank you. For those of you who are truly fashion-forward, you can place your reserves through the Saks Fifth Avenue Club in Beverly Hills or New York.
