Oscars 2011: Sleek Style On The Red Carpet
There were a lot of winners on the Red Carpet at the 2011 Oscars. The range in the color palettes from the soft lilacs (which looked great if you were a blonde or a brunette), shimmering silvers (surprisingly great on two stunning blondes) along with the dramatic range of reds and tangerines to the deep metallic grays worked with simple elegant hair and some truly lovely chignons.
And, we’ve been saying it for months, the pixie cut continues to look great (and Michelle Williams’ make-up is perfectly balanced) along with stick-straight hair with a middle part and elegant up-do’s.
Our favorites were Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Haute Couture and Gwyneth Paltrow was a show-stopper in Calvin Klein. Cate Blanchette was spectacular in Givenchy (I am in love with this dress), Michelle Williams in a silvery Chanel Haute Couture, Hilary Swank in a feathery Gucci and Anne Hathaway in Vintage Valentino (which I remember is also in the archives in a creamy white). Helen Mirren’s figure couldn’t look better and once again she made the perfect choice.
We also loved the jewelry choices. Dramatic but simple, (g)enormous diamond studs, jeweled cuffs and drop earrings with a wide-array of colored sapphires, emeralds, diamonds and rubies and a few spectacular Tiffany necklaces.
The general consensus was the fashion was much more exciting than the show. Anne Hathaway tried mightily to propel things forward as James Franco seemed bored by the whole thing. And, they had absolutely no chemistry together. Too bad. We all hoped they would bring a new excitement to the show.
