London is calling. Christopher Bailey did it again at Burberry Prorsum. Everyone is buzzing about his very original collection during Fashion Week in London. Fun, colorful and filled with a world of handcrafts that somehow he has envisioned as “joyous, upbeat and nostalgic”. His take on Spring 2012 is comprised of an distinctive artisan bent covering crochet, beading, carving, weaving, braiding, and printing, all channeled, in in his words and mind, as a “bored housewife” marooned in a foreign country embellishing her wardrobe. He has taken old world dowdy and morphed it into new world chic. The result: a very fitted approach with oodles of details, sophisticated colors, stripes, unusual fabrics, brand new twists on Burberry parkas and trenches with the spirited bobble hats as the perfect accent. Now that’s what I call a smash.
