Delectable Oscar Moments
The culmination of the entire awards season always ends with the ever entertaining Academy Awards. This year the four hour show, hosted by “Family Guy” Seth MacFarlane, had much of the globe abuzz for slightly different reasons. From the surprising (“Argo” winning Best Picture without its director, Ben Affleck, being nominated for Best Director) to the very deserving and not at all surprising (Daniel Day-Lewis winning Best Actor for his portrayal of ‘Abraham Lincoln’ in “Lincoln”), this was a much debated 85th outing. The protracted opening, the slightly ‘”snarky” but well-loved MacFarlane humor, and the need to bow to Oscar tradition, lead to a mostly ordinary night. Fortunately all was not lost. There are always those special moments and this year there were quite a few. We couldn’t resist and had to share ours.
1. The ‘Les Miserables’ ensemble performance was as incredible and heart-rendering as the film. It seemed as if they were all singing live.
2. Chris Terrio for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Argo” with the most genuine acceptance speech of the evening.
3. Jennifer Lawrence saying, “Yeah – you guys are just standing up because I fell right there and you feel sorry for me” as she accepted the award for Best Actress.

4. Daniel Day-Lewis because he is just an all around incredible human being and an actor whose talents are incomparable including an unexpected bit of standup last night.
5. Charlize Theron’s ballroom dancing showing us that her training at Joffrey Ballet School in New York City was quite excellent.
6. Adele getting choked up thanking her writing partner for picking her to sing “Skyfall” which swept almost all the awards shows for Best Song.
And finally the favorite moment is a tie!
7. Ben Affleck’s gracious, honest and humble acceptance speech for Film of the Year “Argo”. He thanked not only his wife and kids but also his parents, the industry and his own hard work. It was inspiring, to say the least.

However, as the crowd seemed to acknowledge, the night’s absolute highlight may have belonged to Shirley Bassey who belted out the “Goldfinger” theme in a James Bond tribute.
In case you were preoccupied, for all of the highlights, visit here to see the greatest clips of the evening! P.S. MacFarlane drew a larger audience by almost 1MM viewers comprised of mostly males and the younger demo all of whom love his humor. This has ABC clapping with joy.
