Spring 2013 Couture: In Bloom

The Spring 2013 Paris Haute Couture is underway with Dior and Atelier Versace as polar opposites.  Raf Simons, at the creative helm of Dior, tapped into his Belgian roots and explored the theme and importance of spring and rebirth.  The runway was literally a garden of delights  bursting with spectacular evening wear combined with clean, modern, architectural lines.

Delicate and daring florals along with a special grouping of white gowns, as a nod to bridal season, worked beautifully with dramatic coral lipstick and a gamine look reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn. A stroke of genius.  Elegant, dramatic and edgy.

Atelier Versace, who kicked off this week’s shows, was a complete contrast . Supermodels from Kristen McMenamy to Stella Tennent strutted the catwalk in sexy black pin-striped pantsuits and dresses accented with 24 karat gold piping . The over the top glamorous day wear caught everyone’s attention.  I’d love to know where these ladies are going and what they’re doing but my guess is we might see Rihanna or Beyoncé rockin’ this trend.
