Trending: Read My Lips (a.k.a. Mood Lipstick)

read my lips
I’m a child of the 90’s and a major fan of mood rings. I actually think both of those things go hand in hand, so go figure! I had them all! The cheap 25-cent plastic ones that didn’t even actually ever change color, and then there were the cool dophin/turtle/sun shaped silver ones your mom might let you buy if you cleaned your room that week!

I remember how excited I would get when mine changed from a deep blue to a fiery orange. It was like watching the unknown universe of your body unfold before your eyes! Once I figured out the rings only changed color due to the change of temperature I was quickly on to other weird 90’s trends! So where is all this leading?

Being an avid fan of mood rings for so long, I still often feel nostalgic when I think of them, that’s why, the moment I discovered Hare Magic Moroccan Color Changing Lipstick my nostalgia got the best of me and I decided, if nothing else, I had to have it for old times sake! If you’ve ever heard of this magical lipstick, you know its only sold on ebay and it’s near impossible to order as there is a whole tribe of followers who order this stuff in bulk the moment it hits the internet! So if you get the chance and they’re in stock, grab some.

However, after being burned out and bummed out that they sold out so fast, I needed a Plan B. Good news. I accidentally stumbled upon Dior’s Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm. Then, to my astonishment, I discovered Smashbox’s O-Gloss Intuitive Lip Gloss as well as Sephora Collection Color Reveal Lip Balm. They all claim that the color that glides on is in reaction to each persons pH levels, just like the Moroccan lipstick magic!

In testing the various companies, I’ve discovered they all pretty much turn your lips a shade of pink This is due to an ingredient called Red 27. A dye the FDA lists as safe for use. Once exposed to moisture, it turns a pinkish-red.

I know this is kind of a buzz kill, just like the good ol’ mood rings of the 90’s, but on the bright side, I’m still a big fan of the color, the long lasting effect & the moisture each of these products delivered! Not to mention, they’re definitely a fun conversation starter. So are you in the mood?
